AD facilities produce more heat than required for their own consumption. In the Dutch Biogas concept this heat can be used for drying. Depending on the requirements by the customer several types of dryers can be considered.
Fluid Bed Dryer
The fluid bed dryder (FBD) has an excellent efficiency, meaning that for every kW of thermal energy a relative large amount of water can evaporate. With backmixing it is possible to dry the digestate, with only 10% dry matter content, immediately. No prior drying is required. High temperatures are possible. This makes that the exhaust gasses from the CHP-plant can be used directly. The end product is a dry powder or granulate.
Mixed Bed Dryer
Same principle as the FDB only the air flow through the bed is smaller. No fluidisation takes places and the bed of materials to be dried is turned by a mechanical arm. This also ensures that the material is transported through the drier. The efficiency is lower than the FBD but so are the investment cost.
The type of drier has to be selected as part of a total concept. OHM can assist in the implementation of driers in existing concepts, or can include them in a total package suited to your needs.
